Generations to build upon ......
As a lifelong third-generation resident of Ward 5, I have lived on the same street, in the same community, my entire life. My family comes from humble beginnings. My maternal grandparents immigrated from what is now Slovakia and settled in the neighbourhood in the early 1920s, building two houses, while my grandfather found work in the Ford Plant as a janitor. My paternal grandparents immigrated from England and settled just outside the Ward on Lincoln Road.
I have always felt a deep connection to this community and most importantly, the people within it. Having spent my entire life in Ward 5, I have witnessed its growth, changing demographics, and the challenges and opportunities that have come with that transformation. Through it all, what has remained constant is the character of the people here—the hardworking residents, families, and neighbours who continually step up to support one another and take pride in their community.
My career has allowed me to shadow some amazing individuals. My work in education, architecture, the labour movement, community building and housing has given me a broad understanding of the issues facing residents and the importance of bringing people together to find practical solutions.
Life experiences have helped to develop my holistic perspective on neighbourhoods - one that not only values growth but the connections between people and place, and the culture this creates. These insights have helped shape who I am and prepared me to serve our community with knowledge and dedication, through a collaborative approach. I genuinely feel that I'm ready to ask for the community's support and represent the group I hold in such high esteem.
To me, public service has always been about creating opportunities, strengthening neighbourhoods, and helping our community succeed. It’s about ensuring our city provides the services, infrastructure, housing, and economic opportunities that families depend on. It's about building a community that strives for excellence; while creating an environment where our youth, seniors and all residents have the opportunity to thrive.
I truly hope to gain the opportunity to give back to my friends, neighbours and City in a meaningful and impactful way.
All the best,

Ken Acton
